The Center for Environmental Excellence Historic Bridges Community of Practice forum provides an online venue for invited participants to identify emerging issues, trends, procedures, research, and data needs associated with the identification, evaluation, and management of our nation’s historic bridges. This Community of Practice will also contribute to current discussions on how to effectively preserve and manage the nation’s highway bridge assets, since historic bridges are a critical component of our country’s transportation infrastructure. Individuals invited to participate in this Community of Practice include bridge engineers and historic preservation professionals from public and private sectors and academia.
The purpose of this Community of Practice is to foster an interdisciplinary collaborative forum that advances both historic preservation and a streamlined transportation delivery process.
Community of Practice discussions are moderated by a Center technical expert to: 1) ensure the integrity and appropriateness of the discussions and any items posted on the web site; and 2) synthesize and document important information and recommendations generated by the community. The public is able to monitor the Community of Practice discussions and can offer input through the online comment form. Periodically, the moderator, in cooperation with Community of Practice participants, will prepare and publish state-of-the practice reports, which will be posted on this web site.
