Currently Project Manager and Senior Engineer working with preservation issues for bridges and tunnels, movable bridge and historic bridge work.
Retired from Oregon DOT in 2007 after managing the BridgePreservation Engineering Team for 14 years. Supervised design for rehabilitation and cathodic protection of Big Creek, Rocky Creek, Cummins Creek, Rogue River and Coos Bay (McCullough) Bridges on the Oregon Coast Highway. Supervised design on a number of movable bridge upgrade projects, a number of projects replacing the paint systems on historic steel bridges, and a unique widening of the McCullough designed Old Winchester Bridge. Made historic bridges part of the Bridge Section's Bridge Program, including setting up funding mechanisms. Initiated the actions and provided funding to list the McCullough-designed arch bridges on the Coast Highway as a multiple property listing on the National Register. Has provided presentations on techniques developed and proven out by the Bridge Preservation Team in extending service life, increasing load capacity, providing safe vehicle rails that accurately replicate the original decorative pedestrian railings on historic bridges. Previous to ODOT had been a US Navy Civil Engineer Corps Officer, retiring after 23 years of service. Enjoys time with his wife Lori at home on Puget Sound and riding historic ferry boats to work in Seattle.
