| Center for Environmental Excellence by AASHTO - 2006 Best Practices in Context Sensitive Solutions Competition |
| Transportation projects and programs from five states were recognized on Oct. 28 for best practices in context sensitive solutions at the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO) annual meeting in Portland, Oregon. Winning projects and programs were recognized from Montana, Ohio, Massachusetts, Texas, and Washington State. Applicants from four additional states – Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, and Kentucky – were selected as notable practices. | AASHTO/FHWA Peer Exchange: Context Sensitive Solutions |
| Documents and presentations from the September 2006 peer exchange on context sensitive solutions have been posted on Center for Environmental Excellence by AASHTO Website. The peer exchange, held in Baltimore, Md., on Sept 6-8, 2006, was sponsored by the Center for Environmental Excellence by AASHTO in conjunction with the AASHTO CSS Task Force and the Federal Highway Administration. Over 260 participants from 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Nova Scotia participated in peer exchanges, discussing the issues and challenges to implementation. During concurrent breakout sessions sixteen projects were presented to highlight the success of CSS. Participants had the opportunities to meet with other state representatives to initiate state action plans to further implement CSS within their state and agency.
