Through 2008, U.S. Geological Survey is currently providing onsite and distant technical support for establishment of State Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) Coordinating Committees in a number of states and provinces, including CT, NC, SC, MS, NE, WY, SD, MT, ID, UT, and Alberta. In support of this effort, USGS will cooperate with the Invasive Plant Atlas of New England and Mississippi State University to develop EDRR Guidelines for volunteer training, rapid assessment, rapid response, and partnership development. In addition, USGS will cooperate with Mississippi State University to establish a second regional atlas - the Invasive Plant Atlas of the Mid-South. The Alaska Committee for Noxious and Invasive Plant Management (CNIPM) is also interested in establishing a similar atlas in their state. Contact: rwestbrooks@usgs.gov
- Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points training is a tool to help prevent or significantly reduce the accidental transfer of invasive or non-target species from one location to another. In natural resource management, equipment is frequently used in different waters where non-target organisms could be transferred. HACCP is designed to identify points where this transfer can occur and eliminate them or modify the process to prevent the pickup of non-targets. (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)
