Five communities in Iowa will receive a total of $200,000 in technical assistance under the Environmental Protection Agency’s Smart Growth program for recovery and redevelopment following flooding and tornadoes in 2008. The funding, which originates from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and will be administered by EPA, will supports projects such as implementing green infrastructure in flood-prone areas, identifying barriers to sustainable development in existing development policies, and using green infrastructure strategies to address stormwater and flooding issues.
