In 2010, AASHTO sponsored climate change workshops for 10 state DOTs: Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Missouri, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and West Virginia. In 2011, an additional 7 workshops are being conducted, April-July 2011: Arizona, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Vermont. These 17 states were selected from 30 states that applied to AASHTO for a workshop. The workshops are one full day, followed by a 1-2 hour executive session the following day. Each workshop covers:
Participants at the workshops include state DOT staff and managers representing a wide range of DOT functions - planning, design, operations, environmental analysis, communications, maintenance, etc. - as well as representatives of a wide range of state DOT partners - MPOs, major transit agencies, state environmental agencies, state energy offices, the FHWA Division Office, and regional offices of the Federal Transit Administration and Environmental Protection Agency.
The workshop curriculum are developed, customized by state, and delivered by Sarah Siwek and Cynthia Burbank (of Parsons Brinckerhoff) with funding support from FHWA.
AASHTO and FHWA have sponsored seventeen climate change workshops for state DOTs and their partners over the past eighteen months. This webinar provides key highlights of the workshops, brief updates from AASHTO and FHWA on current climate change activities, and presentations by three state DOT representatives on climate change and transportation issues in their respective states. A Q&A session is also held at the end of the webinar.
