Practices for Maintenance of Roadside Wildlife Connectivity Features
Wildlife & Ecosystems
As more state DOTs are installing wildlife fencing, overpasses and underpasses, maintenance staff are faced with deciding how to manage vegetation, maintain structures intended for different types of animals, and maintain novel types of fencing. This project would compile information on approaches to maintenance of these features and develop a handbook for maintenance staff with recommendations on how to manage these features efficiently and in a way that keeps wildlife off roads and promotes use of crossing locations.
More assets related to wildlife connectivity are being deployed but adding their management to the current workload of maintenance staff can be burdensome. This project would gather practices to share ideas for streamlining and create a handbook to assist maintenance staff and supervisors with understanding the function of the assets they are charged with maintaining.
