Research Idea Scope

South Carolina DOT would like to research how its Traffic Noise Abatement Policy compares to other states in the southeast, as well as the nation. Comparison of such items as: Noise analysis steps, TNM input parameters for receivers, roadways, buildings, etc. Field Measurements Model Validation Analysis of Noise Abatement Measures Assembling and comparing the Traffic Noise Abatement Policies will enable SCDOT to revise it’s policy to be more consistent with other states in the Southeast region and the nation.

Urgency and Payoff

Assembling and comparing the Traffic Noise Abatement Policies will enable SCDOT to revise it’s policy to be more consistent with other states in the Southeast region and the nation. Other states will be able to review the comparison and evaluate their respective state policies for areas that need to be revised.
