Research Idea Scope

Climate change in terms of severe weather events is impacting severely the road infrastructure throughout the world. To design, construct and operate all weather roads in cost effective manner is big challenge to civil engineers all over the world. Many management practices and research efforts are going throughout the world. The present study aims at determining the co-efficient of resilience capacities of readily available pavement materials to different climatic parameters such as temperature, humidity, fog, precipitation, freezing thaw, fog and flooding. Already constructed roads materials that are present in most vulnerable areas and in laboratory testing of different pavement materials to severe climatic parameters in controlled atmosphere will be done to determine the co-efficient of resilience capacities. Based on the result listing of suitability of pavement material to different climatic parameters will be done. This will help decision makers to choose pavement material while designing for particular climatic conditions. Simulation software may also be developed based on the co-efficient of resilience capacities to simulate the extreme weather events.

Urgency and Payoff

It is the need of the hour to develop a comprehensive listing of pavement materials as per their capacities to resist extreme weather events through scientific means. This data base will help decision makers, researchers, civil engineers in the selection of pavement materials to particular climatic conditions.
