Dust-free technologies for surface preparation of concrete and steel
- Focus Area: Construction and Maintenance Practices
- Status: Archived
- Subcommittee: Environmental Process, Natural Resources
- Cost: Under $99k
- Timeframe: Under 1 year
Research Idea Scope
Identify and test technologies promising
“dust-free” environments.
Suggested technologies include water-blasting and abrasive blasting with
sponge/grit.
Urgency and Payoff
PM-10 and total particulates are health and
environmental concerns. Current
technologies generate excessive dust during the preparation of concrete and
painted steel surfaces prior to the repair or re-coating or bridge
elements. The technologies mentioned
also hold promise of a less costly method to perform the work and increase
productivity. Real savings would be
realized immediately.
