Research Idea Scope

The research will examines the links between where people live and how that affects their access to employment, transport and a range of services; and considers the implications of housing and location decisions from the viewpoint of three key government objectives: efficiency, equity and environmental sustainability.

Urgency and Payoff

To generate reliable estimates of development impacts and associated benefits for New Starts, and major investments in more mature transit systems. Placing affordable housing near bus and rail transit is perhaps the most effective way to reduce VMT and vehicle trips.
