New Tools for Assessing Wildlife Permeability
- Focus Area: Wildlife & Ecosystems
- Status: Archived
- Subcommittee: Natural Resources
- Cost: $100k-$249k
- Timeframe: 1-2 years
Research Idea Scope
The objective of this research is to develop a PDA that obtains the matrices identified for structures, habitats and species so that field personnel will have a tool for assessing exisint structures for low cost improvements to facilitate wildlife crossings.
Urgency and Payoff
Research has been completed that provide analytical tools for assessing existing highway structures for the capabilities to allow for successful passage of important species. Developing a PDA type tool would give biologies and field personnel readily accessible information for identifying the type of mitigation that could be applied while assessing bridge barriers, roadside feature barriers, etc.
