Public perception of pollinator habitat mowing/management schedules
- Focus Area: Wildlife & Ecosystems
- Status: Archived
- Subcommittee: Natural Resources
- Cost: $250k-$499k
- Timeframe: 2-3 years
Research Idea Scope
Is there a negative perception of DOTs if the mowing schedule leaves taller vegetation throughout more of the year and later into the growing season? Does education about the reasoning behind different vegetation management schedules (for improved pollinator habitat) improve the positive perception of the DOTs?
Urgency and Payoff
With DOTs taking action to support pollinators, understanding public perception of conservation strategies like reduced mowing would help DOTs to provide effective public education.
