Research Idea Scope

TERI Database Administrator Notes:  Not recommended at present time by 2009 Air Quality Subcommittee.

Improve fuel economy using reduced rolling resistance pavements. Develop a methodology to accurately measure the rolling resistance of both flexible and rigid pavements. Survey pavements surfaces in a representative sample of States.  Correlate fuel savings of several vehicle types from reduced rolling resistance pavements

Urgency and Payoff

Reduced GHG impacts from traffic operations on the national highway system.  Small gains in rolling resistance translate into large GHG reductions from traffic operations.
