Research Idea Scope

The objective would be to identify new BMP that would adjust water quality of acid precipitation conveyed along dirt and gravel roads for use by transprotation practioners.

Urgency and Payoff

Acid percipitation is a component of stromwater non-point source pollution load in many transportation systems.  Understanding and reducing non-point pollution load with application of non-point BMP solutions will help states meet EPA mandated TMDL for waterways. This may have significant nutrient trading and carbon sequestration potential allowing other to help to fund upgardes to existing transportation systems that benefits the environment.
