Viability of Using Recycled Asphalt in Roadway Projects

Research Idea Scope
Scope:
Information from the Every Day Counts (EDC) project indicates that there is currently not enough information about re-cycles asphalt to determine how it fits into the program long term. A research project should be developed to fully answer that question.
Urgency and Payoff
Asphalt is the primary pavement of choice in most communities. As deferred maintenance creates a huge backlog of re-paving needs, the funds available for those needs dwindles. The use of re-cycled asphalt might be a possible solution to reduce costs, lessen the need for disposal of old materials, and increase the miles of maintained roadways available withing current funding.
