Optimizing Recycled Asphalt Shingles in HMA
- Focus Area: Waste Management/Recycling/Brownfields
- Status: Archived
- Subcommittee: Environmental Process, Natural Resources
- Cost: $100k-$249k
- Timeframe: 1-2 years
Research Idea Scope
Generalizations have been made as to (re) using shingles in HMA and WMA pavements. The engineering opimization of RAS has only been touched upon as to setting limits of RAS replacement. Grade bumping of virgin AC, mixing times, storage, and production temperatures are only a few of the areas to be optimized for pavement performance in various cold and warm weather climates.
