Tidal Turbine Technology to Power a Modern Marine Transportation System
- Focus Area: Energy
- Status: Archived
- Subcommittee: Air Quality
- Cost: Unknown
- Timeframe: 1-2 years
Research Idea Scope
In NJ, the NJDOT Office of Maritime Resources is funding, modeling and investigating opportunities where we can use low-flow/riverine tidal turbine technology to power not only marine transportation facilities, but also, State transportation infrastructure – such as on bridges, or maintenance facilities adjacent to waterways.
Urgency and Payoff
Low-flow/riverine tidal turbine technology is currently underutilized, but could provide end-of-grid energy solutions that present a true win-win, public-private success story. More R&D in this area would help to expedite the success of projects and efforts now under development.
